Unfortunately I had a water leak from the second floor bathroom that flooded my living room. I had been gone all weekend and came home to a lake. I called Lightspeed and they were fantastic. I threw my hands in the air and left the mess with them!

DISASTER RESPONSE
Co-owner Keith Noble has 21 years experience with emergency management for the city of Austin. Our team creates field-tested restoration plans using cutting-edge technologies to assess the damage, clean up debris, and dry your residence after a storm.
RECONSTRUCTION
Our reconstruction specialists assess needed repairs and provide estimates on damages. Other areas of expertise include: controlled demolition of sagging material; and containment, establishing temporary barriers to stop moisture or smoke migration.
ASAP
Our certified technicians conduct a thorough inspection of your property to identify and map out areas with suspected mold contamination. This critical first step ensures we understand the full scope before any remediation begins.
We establish strict containment barriers around affected areas to prevent mold spores from spreading to clean zones during removal. This protects unaffected parts of your home and keeps your family safe.
Our team uses directional cleaning techniques, working systematically from top to bottom on walls and surfaces. This proven approach prevents recontamination of cleaned areas and ensures complete mold removal from every surface.
Our technicians apply safe, EPA-registered antimicrobials to all impacted areas, eliminating remaining spores and creating a protective barrier. This treatment stops mold from returning and addresses the contamination at its source.
We deploy air scrubbers layered with HEPA and activated charcoal filters to remove airborne particulates, odors, and pollutants. This final step restores clean, breathable air and ensures your indoor environment is truly safe.
MOLD REMEDIATION FAQs
Mold spores are naturally everywhere, but they only grow and multiply when they have oxygen, a food source (like wood or drywall), and moisture. Growth thrives in areas with humidity above 70% and can appear within 24 to 72 hours of water damage.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE MOLD?
Look for visible mold spots, a persistent musty odor, or recent water damage and flooding. Mold often hides behind drywall, under carpets, or inside air ducts. You can consult with a licensed professional to inspect hidden areas, do moisture readings and conduct a thermal scan to find mold and spore growth.
WHAT CAUSES MOLD TO GROW?
CAN I JUST USE BLEACH TO CLEAN IT?
Mold will likely return if the root cause of the moisture isn't resolved. Successful remediation requires fixing leaks, maintaining indoor humidity below 50%, and utilizing proper ventilation (exhaust fans in kitchens and bathrooms)
If the contaminated area is larger than 10 square feet, or if the mold is inside HVAC systems, the EPA recommends consulting a certified remediation professional. If you live in Texas, licensed remediation is strictly regulated by the state. You can refer to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to verify local rules and requirements.
IN TEXAS, DO I NEED A LICENSED RESTORATION COMPANY FOR THE CLEANUP?
The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) generally does not recommend routine bleach use for mold cleanup. Bleach fumes are toxic, and on porous surfaces like wood, the spores can survive while the bleach fades the color. Instead, use soap, water, or commercial cleaners, and fix the underlying moisture problem.
WILL THE MOLD COME BACK?
Service Duration: 1 to 5 days for most residential jobs.
Wait Time: Professionals recommend waiting at least 24 to 48 hours after remediation and air scrubbing is complete before re-entering your home

Traveling? Use The Fresh Air To Identify 7 Signs of Mold Toxicity.
Your next trip can be an easy test for whether mold in your house is the cause of your congestion or cough. Here's what to look for on vacation, and what to do about it.
It usually starts small. A lingering cough, or morning congestion that doesn't quite clear. It could look like recurring headaches, or a skin rash that's sent you to the grocery store to buy unscented detergent.
By our nature, we tend to treat each one separately. Humidifiers and allergy medicines for coughs, new pillows for rashes, etc. Nothing fully resolves.
And then you notice the travel pattern during a long weekend at the beach. Within a day or two, your kiddo feels better. After they're home...the symptoms come back.
That pattern could be a diagnostic signal of an environmental trigger inside your home. And according to the NIH (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences), allergic reactions to mold spore exposure can include:
Almost the entire list of symptoms parents commonly chase from doctor to doctor without an answer.
If your child's symptoms ease up away from home, the air in your home is worth a closer look.

WE HANDLE RECONSTRUCTION SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT FINDING SUBCONTRACTORS
You've already dealt with the disruption of a major mold removal project. You've already found a company to do the cleaning and remediation. But if you need reconstruction, many restoration companies put the burden on you to find, vet, hire, manage and pay a sub-contractor.
At Lightspeed Restoration, we handle any and all repairs within our network of skilled contractors.
No interviewing sub-contractors. No separate invoices, or an entirely new company to deal with. From assessment to cleanup and full home restoration, we handle every part of the work so you can focus on family, work and all the things that matter.
WITH OVER 200 REMEDIATIONS, WE ERADICATE MOLD, MOISTURE AND ODOR SO IT DOESN'T RETURN.

This summer, 120 million Americans will take trips with hotel or air travel. Some of those travelers will feel a noticeable difference from breathing different (cleaner) air from that of their home.
While you're traveling you might notice what happens to family congestion and overall health as you leave your home and get out into the world.
It might look like this: within a day or two of leaving home, your family's congestion eases up.
Or, the morning cough is quieter.
Persistent headaches fade.
Then you come home and within 2 days, everything's back.
If that pattern sounds familiar, you're not imagining it. It's an under-recognized signal that something in your home could be the source of your symptoms
Why Does Mold Get Missed?
There's 2 main reasons why mold gets missed. First, many people aren't aware of mold and mycotoxin hazards. Second, mold spores (which can cause the symptoms listed above) are invisible.
The obvious version (like a black spot on a bathroom ceiling) is rarely the real problem.
The more insidious version of airborne allergens lives behind drywall after a slow plumbing drip, in the HVAC system after a humid summer, in attic insulation after a roof leak, or under flooring near an exterior wall where condensation built up over years.
You can't see it, but your family is breathing the spores that hidden mold is releasing into the air.
The store-bought test kits sold at hardware stores are widely considered unreliable.
They tend to find mold spores everywhere, including in homes with no problem at all, because some level of spores is normal in outdoor air.
And using DIY cleaning solutions like bleach can actually make things worse. Bleach doesn't penetrate porous materials where mold roots itself, and disturbing visible mold without containment can send spores throughout the house via the HVAC system.
Families often clean a visible patch, feel relieved, and then watch symptoms get worse over the following weeks without connecting the two events.
It's quite common that homeowners try a DIY cleaning protocol and yet the symptoms don't go away.
Hi, I'm Heather, owner of Lightspeed Restoration of Greater West Austin. I've seen time and again how most homes never get properly checked, and most contractors don't follow protocols that actually keep your family safe during removal. That's the gap I built this company to close.
Here's what proper mold remediation actually looks like — and what to expect from us, or from any qualified company you might consider.
1. Inspection and air quality testing. Before anything is removed, we identify where the moisture source is, where the mold is growing (including where it's hidden), and what's actually in your indoor air. Without this step, remediation is guesswork.
2. Containment. This is the step most homeowners simply don't know about, and the step most cleanup attempts skip. At Lightspeed, we seal off affected areas with plastic sheeting and negative air pressure so that when materials are disturbed, spores don't travel through the rest of the house. This matters most in homes with children, because the rooms kids spend the most time in — their bedrooms, the playroom — are usually the spaces you most need to protect from cross-contamination.
3. HEPA filtration during removal. Air scrubbers with HEPA filters run throughout the work to capture airborne spores in real time. A standard shop vac or household vacuum doesn't filter spores effectively and can recirculate them through the home.
4. Source removal, not just surface cleaning. Porous materials with mold growth — drywall, insulation, certain types of flooring — generally need to be removed, not just cleaned. Non-porous surfaces are treated with appropriate antimicrobials.
5. Post-remediation verification. After the work is done, air quality is tested again to confirm spore counts are back in the normal range. Without this step, you don't actually know whether the problem is solved, and you won't know if symptoms return next season whether it's the same problem coming back or something new.
Every step has a purpose. Skip any of them and you've done expensive cleaning, not remediation.
What Does Proper Mold Remediation Look Like?
Trust Your Intuition.
One thing worth saying directly: in most of the families we work with, one parent suspected something was off in the house long before anyone else took it seriously.
If you've been the one tracking symptoms, asking the doctor questions, noticing the travel pattern, then you've got observational data to back up your intuition.
Indoor air quality is the kind of thing that's easy to dismiss until someone actually tests it. And once they do, the suspicion usually turns out to have been worth pursuing.
You don't need a diagnosis to ask for an inspection. You just need to want an answer.
Learn More About How To Protect Your Family From Mold.
If the travel pattern sounded familiar, or if anything else in this article did, the next step is a short consultation.
A consultation call is a conversation, not a commitment. We'll ask about your home, the symptoms you've been noticing, any known water events (a leak, a flood, a humid basement), and what you've already tried. From there, we can tell you whether an inspection makes sense.
There's no pressure to schedule remediation and no annoying upsells on the call. The goal is to help you understand your options if you're having concerns. Ultimately we want you to stop chasing symptoms and rest easy knowing your family can live safely in your home.
